Pérez Reverte and the Historical Memory

Pérez Reverte, in an interview that there publishes the cultural supplement of the newspaper WORLD, leaves some truths like handles, black on target.
- My historical memory has three thousand years: do you know?, and the problem is that the illiterate historical memory is very dangerous. Of the year 36 and the later repression only they explain themselves to 39 with the Brave man, with Reyes Católicos, with the conquest of America, with Cadiz... To separate that, to attribute the evil of a period to four fascists and two generals is to detach the explanation and to make her impossible. That an illiterate politician, is of the party that it is, that he has not read a book in his life, he speaks to me about historical memory because his grandfather told him something, it does not cost me for anything. I love refined someone who says to me that 36 are explained in Asturias, and he explains himself in I Republic, and explains itself in the liberalism and in the conservatism of the XIX.th. Because Spanish is historically a prostitute's son: do you understand?.

The problem is that Spain is an uneducated country, Spain is a joyfully uneducated country, it is a country deliberately uneducated, that enjoys being uneducated, that long ago that it boasts of being uneducated, and with the people like that, this Law of Historical Memory is to put a gun in the hand. We are not prepared for laws like those.
